C-Span Should Serve Alcohol With This Crap
April 8th, 2008I’ve been sitting through this torturous Senate Armed Services Committee hearing for at least a couple of hours now, or maybe it’s been three days, it’s hard to remember. Michelle Malkin has a good roundup here. McCain did a serviceable job with the exception of his Shia/Sunni flub. Carl Levin and Ted Kennedy were dicks, I’ll give you a moment to recover from the shock. Lieberman managed to excoriate his former party members in a way that would be effective if Democrats were capable of shame. The most impressive performance that I’ve seen so far was Lindsay Graham. He was very clear in making the case that Iraqi and American long-term security are intertwined. I have no real affection for the man for a variety of reasons, but he was the star of the show as far as I’m concerned.
Hillary Clinton made her case for why progress isn’t really progress and that we should just quit because that would really help her out in the election. Right now I’m listening to some angry school marm lecturing two career public servants who are trying to build something out of a world-class hellhole. The label under her chin says that she’s Claire McCaskill (D-MO), but I can’t help but think that she may be the lady from The Weakest Link. Whoever she is, she’s scolding a four-star general like he’s a three-year-old.
I pretty much reached my daily dose of stupid about an hour ago, but this stuff is history, so I muddle through. I keep going back in my mind to the title of P.J. O’Rourke’s book, Parliament of Whores.
